Know About the Plant Extracts in Medicine of Herbalism
Herbalism is a traditional practice based on the use
of plants and plant extracts in medicine or folk medicine. Plant Extracts are
also known as botanical medicine, medical Herbalism, herbal medicine, herbal
medicine, herbal medicine, herbal medicine, and phytotherapy.
Plant extract has evolved the ability to synthesize
chemical compounds that help defend them from a wide variety of predators such
as insects , fungi and herbivorous mammals against attacks. By chance, though
toxic to plant predators some of these compounds turn out to have beneficial
effects when used to treat human diseases by using Herbalism.
Since prehistoric times people on all continents have
used hundreds to thousands of indigenous plant extracts to treat ailments. Otzi
the Iceman, whose body was frozen in the Otztal Alps for more than 5,300 years,
found medicinal herbs in the personal effects which is used TO prepare Natural Medicine. These herbs appear to have been used in the treatment of
parasites found in his gut. Anthropologists theorize that animals have
developed a tendency to look for bitter parts of the plant in response to
disease.
Some animals have specially adapted digestive systems
to cope with toxins from certain plant extracts. For instance, the koala will
live on the eucalyptus leaves and shoots, a plant extract which is dangerous to
most animals.
Most extracts had notable antifungal activities using
both qualitative and quantitative methods of evaluation. Extract of cress seeds
has proved to be the most effective among the plants examined.
The use of herbs and spices in cuisine has developed
in part as a response to the threat of pathogens born from food. Studies show
that the recipes are the most highly spiced in tropical climates where
pathogens are the most abundant.
